Inspired by their namesake, 13th century poet and mystic Jalal al-din Rumi, duoJalal presents repertoire that bridges cultures and dissolves boundaries. On this recording duoJalal couples globally influenced chamber music with Rumi's poetry. The beauty of Rumi's words, especially those of social inclusion and peaceful coexistence, are particularly inspiring to the members of duoJalal.
The music on this compact disc includes two commissioned works from duojalal’s “Rumi Experience” project and comprises music from Japan, Indonesia, Mongolia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. The commissioned composers (Evan Ziporyn and Ljova) chose their poems and wrote works based on those writings. duoJalal coupled the remaining poems and musical works found on this disc. In performance spoken poetry precedes each work. Here the poetry is included in the liner notes.
